School Based Construction New recruits!

News Article from Tuesday 29th March 2016

The School Based Program Certificate I in Construction 2016 is truly underway! The new flock of students has landed!

The Schools involved this year comprise of Concordia Lutheran College, St Mary’s College, Toowoomba State High School Mt Lofty and Wilsonton campus, and Pittsworth State High School.

Our trainer Charles White takes the lead and is excited to update us on the progression of this years new students.

With the 3 groups, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, we have in total 45 Students.  Thank you to all Teachers, parents and staff at DGT for their involvement in the course preparation and because of everyone’s hard work we are all really looking forward to successful year!

For Term 1 the focus of the program is for everyone to be familiar with the workplace health and safety requirements on a construction site. Also we will hope to gain a good understanding of some of the tools and equipment used on building sites. We will do this through demonstrations and then through actually using the tools in various projects that will be hosted in the community and around the school grounds.

The Toowoomba Show Grounds have provided the Monday and Thursday Group with a fantastic refurbishment project to re-do the deck floor area of the clock tower, before and after photos will follow in the next few weeks.

This week DGT would like to give a MASSIVE thank you to Makita Power Tool Company who put on a very informative demonstration and information presentation to all 3 groups, both at the Toowoomba Show Grounds and Pittsworth State High School. The presentation compliments the program in so many ways and the opportunity for Students to try the tools that were on display was a very valuable fun experience!

Over the last 3 years that Makita have been visiting, each year simply gets better, the tools themselves and the range available makes being a trade person a privilege! So thank you to both Sam Webster and Nick Churchill for your time and efforts, we certainly look forward to seeing you guys again!

Stay tuned for more updates from Charles and his school based Construction crew of 2016.
