Alex Completes!

News Article from Monday 20th November 2017

Alex completed his apprenticeship last Friday being the 17th of November 2017 by gaining his national qualification in Certificate III – Automotive Mechanical Technology – (Light Vehicle).

Alex is extremely pleased to have completed his Automotive apprenticeship after a major setback at the beginning.

School was never something that Alex enjoyed and he legally left at age 14 to pursue his first full time apprenticeship. The employer he went to initially informed Alex he would have to be let go as he couldn't pay him anymore after just one year of learning on the job.

This was a huge setback for Alex who went back to help on the family farm for a few years before his next apprenticeship opportunity came from DGT to work with local Goondiwindi employer Diesel Care.

The Diesel Care team proved to be a perfect fit and fantastic host employer. DGT were able to provide Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for Alex to ensure he could continue straight on with his Certificate III – Automotive Mechanical Technology – (Light Vehicle) right where he left off.

Alex shared that he has found a much more practical and effective way of learning through the apprenticeship pathway and praises Jamie and Dallas as great teachers.

Proving apprenticeships are a valuable way to continue learning and expanding your horizons, Alex will be seeking new learning experiences and looking to train in more industry tickets later on down the track.

Alex gave this advice for those considering the apprenticeship pathway "Continue your learning, keep widening your horizons, move onto whatever you enjoy and be flexible. Make sure you learn what you can while can... and keep your mindest on just doing it."

The highlight of Alex's learning experience? Gaining his national qualification - the first of many he hopes. For now, Alex is proud to be sticking with Diesel Care and has been offered a full time position to continue on with Jamie and the crew.
