Fitter and Turner Apprenticeship

DGT are calling for Expressions of Interest for individuals interested in a career as a Fitter and Turner to commence an apprenticeship with a local Toowoomba Workshop in the New Year.

As an apprentice undertaking Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Maintenance - Fitting and/or Turning) you will learn all aspects of the manufacturing and installation of metal components (turning) and assembling them (turning) to construct industrial machinery, machine components or tools.  You will also learn to cut and bend equipment such as hydraulic pipe lines and weld metal components together.

This role is primarilly workshop based and you can expect to work on the following equipment;

  • lathes (including CNC lathes or machining equipment)
  • milling machinery
  • welding equipment
  • grinding machinery
  • hydraulic presses
  • tool cutting equipment

DGT is interested to hear from anyone that is set on a career in metal engineering and committed to working hard during your apprenticeship.  Applicants will need the following;

  • Good hand-eye coordination 
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Good problem solver
  • Able to follow directions
  • Adhere to safe work practices
